A piece of standard wisdom in nuclear physics has been the long distance dominance of pion exchanges of the nuclear force while the short range component is fairly unknown [ 1]. Such a situation seems a fertile ground for Effective Field Theories [ 2, 3]. Actually, the functional dependence of the long range piece is calculable within chiral perturbation theory [ 4, 5] yielding for the reduced potential (U(r) = MV (r)) U(r) = MNmπ mπ f 2 π W (mπr) + mπ f 4 π W (mπr) + mπ f 4 π mπ MN W (mπr) + . . . }
